Kimjang
Wendy Ahn
If only I had realized the value of tradition.
It was the turning of winter
that called my family together.
Crispy cut napa cabbages,
Seasoning filled with favor, and
Well-incorporated sticky rice,
assembled.
The familiar conversations,
The returning smell of spice
A cause of apathy.
If only I had realized the value of tradition.
The familiar conversations,
The returning smell of spice
Now, a tradition I long for.
Kimjang is an invaluable memory
A preservative of my family’s tradition
